Before I jump into this review, I have to say this – I was racking my
brain for the list of Nigerian products/services I’ve used since my relocation so I’d have a whole bunch of review posts rearing to go
and you know what I realized? Almost everything I thought of was
related to FOOD! How alarming! That kind of says a lot about what I get
up to mostly in Lagos and the kind of people I roll with (excuse
while I quickly step on the scale………………..um, never mind................o_O).
Anyway, back in the dreadful NYSC days, two friends of mine and I decided we wanted to splurge a
little of the surplus pittance doled out to us by NYSC. Thanks to a backdated
regulation that doubled the monthly NYSC pay (yeah, they would wait
until our service year was over to implement that, hiss), we had a little extra in our pockets so we were feeling all fancy and decided to go to Talindos.
Overall verdict – actually pretty decent! I got the rib-eye steak and
fries, and water (yes, water, my muffin top needs severe warning and discipline). On second
thoughts, I should have gotten mashed potatoes with my steak,
unfortunately, I only realized that after sneaking some of E’s mashed
potatoes. Still lawd, let me tell you, that steak was the
best steak meal to have happened to me since I set foot back in this
continent! Sadly, I didn’t have room for dessert, the brownie in
particular which I’d heard only good things about. All in all, it was a
pretty good night with the girls with good food and good gossip (insert
straight face).
Pros:
- Great food! Please go for any of their steaks, I promise you, that
ish will be melting off your fork. Be sure to get ‘em with mashed potatoes
& not fries.
- Good enough service. The manager was all friendly, recommending such and such, and was pretty much attentive
- Nice interior decor and atmosphere
Cons:
- Smoking is allowed in the restaurant!! I was so appalled by this.
It’s bad enough that smoking is allowed indoors at lounges, bars and so
on but in a freaking restaurant?! Is that even legal or something? Come
on. No sooner had we been seated than two separate parties came in and
started smoking while waiting to be served. It felt like a conspiracy.
Why on earth would I want strangers breathing poisonous air into my
membranes and all over my delm food? You bet we asked to be reseated
with a quickness.
- You need to be flush in the pocket as this joint is very expensive
- Parking sucks, just like everywhere else in Lagos
Areas for improvement:
- Implement a non-smoking policy with instant alacrity. I knocked out a solid point for that mess.
3.5 stars out of 5 (Would have been a 4.5 but for the smoking, yes, I felt that strongly about it)
